1) How far are you in your book (ex: 50%, 80%, page 60 of 150)
2) Have you been using any strategies to improve your comprehension? What strategies have you used? Which strategies have worked the best for you?
3) Have you begun to notice a theme? Write some of your guesses for what you think the theme of the book is. (If you are reading a non-fiction book, instead of theme, tell me what you think the author's bias is)

ReplyDelete2) There are a lot of new words; I just guess them, and I try to use "chunk"strategy to improve my reading speed.
3) My fan book is non-fiction book, and it is the author's family true story. I'm really touched by the warm spirit the his family has. His family has exorbitantly doleful life, but they try to overcome it with grateful and tolerant attitude. This family is LDS family, the author punctuate how important prayer is and how indispensable repentance is?

ReplyDelete2. I have tried to use guessing words by context, but it is still a little bit hard to understand some words. Also I have tried to read the book fast to see if I can understand the information of the story when I read fast. It has worked, but sometimes I don't understand some things.
3.My book is The Great Gatsby. So far, I think that the theme of this book is "Trying to get to know who is Gatsby" "His background, knowledge, and intentions". I think that the theme is something related to that.

ReplyDelete2. I just read again if I can not comprehend. But the book is suppose to be a children book so it "easier" It is a really fun book. I like it so far.
3. The theme of this book I think is destiny. The author emphasized in how bad luck follows the leading character of the book and how all was meant to be.

ReplyDelete2. I use a dictionary for difficult words. But, there are so many words that I don't know ,so I try to understand in a context.
3.The theme is How the UN can help people who need help.

ReplyDelete2.- I used some dictionaries like learnersdictionary.com becuase are many new words, so far is not that difficult but I still looking for some words in order to understand it better.
3.- Well the bias of my author is o clear, he wants to show the existence, origin and characteristics of those secret societies... I think at the end he will invite to his readers to be attentive to these sects.
1. I am on the 30% of the book. I have been more focus on reading news articles from the New York Times on my free time.
ReplyDelete2. The strategy that has helped me the most and I have been using is skipping the words that are unknown for me and icicle or highlight them. Then at the end of my reading I look for the word on the dictionary. Therefore, I don't pause while reading in order to enhance my reading speed.
3. I think the author tries to let us know his opinion about how thinks were in the 1920s in terms of economy, and social problems-Talking about the impact of World War I.

ReplyDelete2)In some cases skipping words or translating them because some of them are in French but are very similar to the English and Spanish.
3)My book is about the murder of a rich woman. Every one in her family is suspect and the everyone wants part of the inheritance that she left.

ReplyDelete2) Well, dracula is a very complex history that I need to understand each word to connect all the story. However, sometimes a good strategy that I been used is skip some unimportant words.
3) My book have many theme, for example, confront our fears, bravery, and also a kind of gothic book
At the end I read the book of Hellen Keller. It is a beautiful and inspirational story.

3) I really like how the book was writting because people just involve in the story easily.
